Black Sesame Milk | 'Open Sesame' Superpowers

16th March 2021 by Jamie Raftery Leave a Comment

    JUMP TO RECIPE

If you haven't tried black sesame milk yet, I highly recommend you to do so. Black sesame milk is very easy to make, the color is amazing, it tastes really good and the nutritional content is vast. This is a quick and easy recipe to make at home requiring just 3 main ingredients.

    'Open Sesame' Superpowers.

How to Make Black Sesame Milk

The first stage is to soak the black sesame seeds in water overnight. This helps improve digestibility and boosts nutrition.

The soaked seeds are then strained through a fine strainer and added to the blender.

Water, sea salt, and a pitted date are added to the black sesame seeds, then blended for about 1 minute until nice and smooth.

The milk is then squeezed through a nut milk bag into a bowl. Pour the milk into glass bottles and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days.

The result: delicious nutrient-rich vibrant sesame milk!

    Homemade plant milk

I love using plant milk in my recipes, they add so much flavor, color, and nutrition. Making your own plant milk at home is fun, easy, and cost-effective. Furthermore, they are far more nutritional. Homemade plant milk has a shelf life of no more than 3 days. This is a good thing though! Ingredients that do not turn sour after a few days mean they have additives and come processed, void of much nutrition.

Store-bought plant milk will have been pasteurized for extending shelf life which depletes much of the nutrition, they also have some sweeteners added to appeal to the mass public's palate.

    Equipment you will need

The only equipment you need to make your own plant milk are:

    • A good quality high-speed blender
    • Nut milk bag
    • Mixing bowl
    • Storage bottles or containers

Recipe variations and ideas for black sesame milk

There are so many ways to incorporate black sesame milk into different recipes. You can try adding them to hot chocolate or cafe lattes. My favorite at the moment is a banana and black sesame milk smoothie. So simple and so delicious.
